Your birth will affect the rest of your life

Preparing for a birth is one of the most important things you can do as a future mother. Your birth will not only be an individual event in your life - it will affect you physically, mentally and emotionally long afterwards. It will affect how you look at yourself, your relationship with your partner and your ability to connect with your baby.

I want to tell you a little about why I am here for you - and my journey that Doula starts with my own birth experiences.

My own birth trip

My interest in being doula started after I gave birth to my first child in 2012. Then I was 25 and felt safe in my body and my ability to give birth. But I was not prepared for what was actually waiting. Like many other future mothers, I thought that women have given birth to children at all times, so I trusted the process and thought everything would go well.

But reality looked different. There was a staff shortage, I received no support and the care that was given came without my consent, even though the midwives meant well. I left the birth with both physical and mental scars, and it was an experience that I had to process long afterwards.

When I was expecting my second child, I chose to give birth at home. This time I was more prepared, and that experience changed my life. It was a strong and positive birth, where I felt safe and in control. I realized how important it is to let a birth be as undisturbed as possible. When mom and baby get the time and space they need, both feel best.

My third pregnancy had another challenge - the placenta was too low, and I was told that a caesarean section was necessary. But after much consideration and that I really listened to my own gut feeling, I gave birth vaginally and on my terms. With the support of fantastic midwives, body therapists and douls, I could make the right decision for myself and my baby.

The support you receive during childbirth plays a role

Over the years, I have had the honor of supporting many women through their pregnancies, births and breastfeeding. Being a part of these women's journey is a privilege that I never take for granted. I have seen how important it is to have the right support throughout the process - from the preparations for childbirth to support with breastfeeding afterwards.

How you as a mother are taken care of during and after childbirth will affect you long afterwards. It is not an experience you just "shake off". Your birth will affect how you are as a parent, how you feel about your body, your sexuality and your relationship with your partner.

Take control of your birth

I became doula because I believe that we can change our birth experiences by giving birth to our own terms and by supporting each other. With the right preparation and knowledge you can take control of your birth and feel strong, safe and secure. You can create the birth you dream of, where you are in the driver's seat.

I'm here for you so you can feel calm and strong - both when it's time to give birth and during the first time with your baby. By preparing yourself with the right knowledge and support, you can avoid many of the complications and fears that may otherwise arise.
